On August 1 and 12, 2025, the CEC-REN Youth Outreach team had the joy of visiting the YMCA of Eastern Ontario to present at two “Up and Atom” themed science camps.
Youth Outreach Coordinators, Prama Roy and Rachel Korchinsky, were joined by three of our enthusiastic new Youth Outreach volunteers — Mouna Harb, Rhiannon Punch, and Nicole Subryan.
During our visits, the inquisitive 6–9 year-old campers explored:
• 💧 Why protecting our freshwater matters
• 🧪 What emerging contaminants are (the “yucky stuff” in water)
• 🌍 How they can help protect our drinking water
Campers took part in a hands-on activity showing how contaminants in water can harm plants — a memorable way to connect science to the real world!
A heartfelt thank you to Mikaela Mantha, Supervisor of YMCA Youth Recreation and Camps, Angel Turriff, the YMCA camp counsellors, and our volunteer team for their involvement in creating two successful visits with our youngest youth group to date!
