Hayley Kirk is a second-year Master鈥檚 student in the Department of History at 国产91尤物福利在线观看鈥檚 University. Her research interests lie at the juncture of Indigenous history and the British Empire, and in the study of art history and material culture.
Her MA thesis, supervised by Dr. Scott Berthelette, examines portraiture produced through transatlantic exchanges between Indigenous leaders and the British Empire between 1710 and 1825. Blending archival research, visual analysis, and material culture studies, her project explores how these portraits reveal dynamics of imperial power while also illuminating strategies of Indigenous self-representation, cultural understanding, and negotiation.
She holds a BA (Honours) in History with a Certificate in Art History and Visual Culture from Dalhousie University. Hayley is currently supported by the Sir James Aikins Fellowship in Canadian History, the David Russel Award, and the Arthur and Evelyn Lower Scholarship (2024). She was previously awarded the Edith Rose and Goodman Award in 2022 from Dalhousie University.
