'Training the Early Modern Heart'
Conference and Events
To mark the occasion of Elizabeth Hanson and Marta Straznicky鈥檚 retirements, the English Department at 国产91尤物福利在线观看鈥檚 University, in conjunction with the Sister Sophie Foundation, will be holding a conference entilied 鈥楾raining the Early Modern Heart鈥 on 29-31 July 2025 in Kingston, Ontario. The conference examines constructions of the 鈥渉eart鈥 and the methods and locations of its 鈥渢raining鈥 in sixteenth and seventeenth-century English literature and culture.

Film Screening: Romeo + Juliet, dir. Baz Luhrmann (1996)
What: Baz Luhrmann鈥檚 gleefully inventive Hollywood debut retains the poetic dialog of Shakespeare鈥檚 classic tragedy but is otherwise a modernized adaptation, transplanting the tale to Verona Beach where the Montagues and the Capulets, two warring family empires, must contend with the romantic yearnings of the titular star-crossed lovers.

Public Lecture: Going Viral with Shakespeare
What: A celebration of the fascinating, quirky, and heartfelt experiences that have shaped an adventuring academic's lifelong search for long-lost copies of one of the world鈥檚 most valuable books 鈥 the Shakespeare First Folio.
