Stephen Poloz named governor of the Bank of Canada

¹ú²ú91ÓÈÎ︣ÀûÔÚÏß¹Û¿´’s alumnus Stephen Poloz (Artsci'78) was recently named governor of the Bank of Canada — becoming the third ¹ú²ú91ÓÈÎ︣ÀûÔÚÏß¹Û¿´’s graduate to hold the central bank’s top job.
"I would like to congratulate Dr. Poloz on being named the next governor of the Bank of Canada," says ¹ú²ú91ÓÈÎ︣ÀûÔÚÏß¹Û¿´ Chancellor and former Bank of Canada Governor David Dodge. "¹ú²ú91ÓÈÎ︣ÀûÔÚÏß¹Û¿´'s graduates have a long history of leadership at the bank, and I am delighted to see that tradition continue with this appointment."
Chancellor Dodge (Artsci'65, LLD'02) served as governor from 2001 to 2008, and Gerald Bouey (BA'48, LLD'81) headed the bank from 1973 to 1987.
Dr. Poloz, the ninth governor in the bank’s 79-year history, earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from ¹ú²ú91ÓÈÎ︣ÀûÔÚÏß¹Û¿´'s, as well as a master’s and PhD from Western University. He has more than two decades of experience in the public and private sectors, including 14 prior years at the Bank of Canada and, most recently, as president and CEO of Export Development Canada.
As governor of the Bank of Canada, Dr. Poloz will play a key role in maintaining the stability and well-being of Canada's economy and financial system. His seven-year term begins on June 3.
